Blog Roll

It wont be as close as you think

I read the blogs and listen to the pundits and the accepted thinking seems to be that this will be an ultra tight race.  Alot of nail biting and frustration out there.  I guess I don't see it being quite so grim. I think McCain wins by as much as 15 points. The polls will, as they always do, show things to be very tight right up to election day. But on that day, experience will count and it will count big, along of course, with the Palin factor. Once in office, they have to lead. Not seek bipartisanship or media approval. The MSM will be an irritant but not an obstacle. Their is an opportunity for real leadership to fill a major national void, an incredible lack of direction. It wont be easy and mistakes will be made but good leaders make their mistakes going forward and they dont need a political compass to give them direction. We win and we win big. Then its up to us to make a difference

Not only that, I think we make possible gains in the Senate and certain gains in the house.  Sure there is a long way to go and alot can happen.  But thats true on both sides.  I think our candidates are more rooted in their message and clear about their mission.  That will make all the difference.

Sarah's ability to go around the media

Sarah Palin has a gift.  Her ability to take her message to the people. This is not something that we see very often in a public figure.  Reagan had it.  Kennedy seemed to have it.  It is an ability to elevate a conversation to a different level through plain spoken conviction and clarity about one's beliefs.  That is why it is so important not to get to drawn up in the minutiae that dominates the media's attempt to marginalize Sarah Palin.  It wont work or, should I say, it shouldn't.  It can only work if the republican faithful and the McCain campaign allow themselves to get drawn into it.  Controversies like the one's that the press is and will be trying to foster against Palin are background noise that is easily tuned out unless you bring it to the forefront.  The fact is that the general electorate knows who the press is and how they operate.  They also know that they like Sarah Palin.  They like her style, her background, and her plain spoken way.  Why?  Because its devoid of the usual political double talk or hollow sentiment that they are so familiar with hearing from the political establishment.

Sarah should give interviews now and then but she should be right out front where she can take her case to the masses.  Those are the people that define this election and they will define the way Sarah is viewed.   No matter how hard the press will try, the people will not let them have their way.  The dye is being cast and their is little that the press can do about it as long as republicans don't go on the defensive or get caught up in the minutiae.

Sarah's need for continued clarity and conviction

  1. One thing that was so refreshing about Sarah Palin to many voters, not just republican voters, was her conviction about issues and the clarity with which she was able to state those convictions.  In all fairness, her first interview should have pretty low expectations.  Was she good?  Not really.....  Should we be surprised?  Same answer, not really.  There is a reason that the Liberal press is frothing at the mouth to get her one-on-one in front of the camera.  So what's the answer to the next 2 month's grilling that Sarah is going to get?  Be clear about your convictions and don't let hypothetical questions and demands for the perfect answer put you on the defensive.  Dont be a policy wonk, be Sarah.  It worked for Ronald Reagan.  Look back on his interviews.  What you came away with was his conviction and beliefs.  Did he give long winded policy answers?  Absolutely not.  The fact is that every question that Sarah Palin will get will be complicated and usually open ended.  Whether its foreign policy or the economy.  A good example is Iran.  So here is what I, in my humble opinion, think it should look like(Ques: What are your feelings about the current prospect of a nuclear armed Iran?  What would you do as president if faced with that prospect? Sarah :  I think a nuclear armed Iran is unexceptable.  What I would do is, what we are currently doing.  Looking for every diplomatic solution that we can find.  Whether in the form of incentives, or disincentives or a combination of the two.  Additionally we have to continue to work with the United Nations and communicate with our allies in the Middle East so that they can exert influence where possible.  The United States and Isreal are not the only ones concerned about a nuclear Iran.  So we are not alone in our desire to monitor and address Iran's nuclear ambitions)  That isn't a perfect answer and she is much better at espousing her thoughts than I but it's straight, convicted, and very plain spoken.  You can expect that she will make mistakes but for the McCain forces to send her out with a talking point built around policy language is foolish and does nothing more than marginalize your candidate.  Advise her on McCain policy, familiarize her with names and places, and then let Sarah be Sarah.....  Thats how she made such a splash in the first place.
